Communication Committee Description
Committee Objectives:
- To add value to a member's relationship with PEBA by providing information
and opportunities to expand professional knowledge and contacts
- To develop a comprehensive strategy using media to communicate industry/ association news timely and effectively.
- To assess communication needs and mechanisms to identify adequacy/deficiencies/improvement opportunities
- To re-evaluate communication program at least annually for current suitability and effectiveness
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Identify standing needs (i.e., readily definable), delivery timing and best
medium/media for execution.
- Identify process and contacts to communicate with other Committees to ensure maximum
mutual benefit and effectiveness.
- Assign people to projects and provide oversight.
Customers:
PEBA members, WorldatWork, General HR, Benefits, and Compensation community, and other PEBA committees.
Time Commitment
- Semi-annually, meet to identify/reconfirm standing newsletter needs, calendar, and delivery methodology; assign tasks, identify/reevaluate ad hoc communications process.
- Annually, meet to assess best practices, reevaluate committee member interests, strengths and redefine expertise areas.
- Otherwise, as needed to address ad hoc needs.
Committee Member Profile: Committee Members should. . .
- Value the importance of written communication, understand various media
and communication tools, and be able to quickly evaluate best medium to obtain
communication objective within time constraints.
- Have strong writing skills and the ability to think creatively.
- Understand PEBA, its mission, and membership..
- Be able willing to work independently, as well as part of this team,
and to interact with other committees, e.g. Programs, Forum, etc.
- Be flexible and creative!
- Be willing to work within deadlines. Strict adherence to time lines is
imperative, since the responsiveness of this committee will influence the
success of other committees.
- Have some newsletter, web design or writing experience, if possible.
