Incentive Goal-Setting in Stormy Waters: Strategies to Survive and Succeed

Many organizations struggle with the challenge of how to define and set goals for an incentive plan Goal setting and matching pay to performance are critical issues for businesses. There are multiple moving parts and the business environment is one of the most challenging in decades. Also, as sales plans are increasingly focused on achievement of goals or quotas versus a straight commission, being able to set a reasonable goal is a critical part of making these plans effective. During this session, we will focus on goal-setting for fun and profit:

A. Address each of these moving parts: leverage, measures, roles and variance.
B. Look at goal setting vehicles for challenging situations: high demand volatility, long cycles, and significant regional/channel growth variance, among others.
C. Review cases for each of these situations. Participants will have an understanding of goal-setting challenges and design/process alternatives to address each.

Even those organizations that have fair and equitable pay programs often overlook the significant role communication plays in enabling a program to be understood and successfully administered. This session will explore several pay scenarios and how they can produce undesirable circumstances and results. A real-life case study demonstrating the positive effects of pay transparency will be shared, and attendees will receive a handout jam-packed with practical tips on how to develop successful pay-related communications.
