Program Details:
This full-day event will be a combination of lecture style learning
and interactive case studies. Participants will learn about
Defined Benefit Plans, Defined Contribution Plans, ERISA Title I, and Risk
Mitigation. After learning about these topics, participants will be asked to
put their knowledge into practice. Small groups will be assigned where teams
will be asked to prepare case studies based on real-world examples. For a

Speakers:
William Belanger,
Senior Consultant, Towers Watson
William L. Belanger is a Senior Consultant with Towers Watson and the Director
of the Towers Watson Professional Development Institute (PDI), a group that
focuses on the design, development and presentation of benefits seminars and
customized in-house education and training programs for clients. An attorney by
training, he has 24 years of experience in retirement plan design, operation and
compliance.
Mr. Belanger has particular expertise in benefit plan fiduciary responsibility
and governance, and is one of Towers Watson’s leaders in fiduciary education,
training and consulting. He frequently publishes articles on this topic and
serves as a guest speaker at conferences. In addition, Mr. Belanger performs
benefit plan governance reviews and evaluations for Towers Watson clients. He
is also the author of PDI’s extensive retirement plan training materials.
Prior to joining the firm in 1995, Mr. Belanger was a vice president and senior
consultant with another worldwide employee benefits consulting firm. His law
degree is from the University of Kansas School of Law, and he is a member of the
Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Judith Mester, GES Tax Director, Deloitte Tax LLP
Judith is a Director in our Global Employer Services practice. She has
experience serving large multinational and mid-cap companies in numerous
sectors, including manufacturing, consumer business, and telecommunications.
She has extensive experience in Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance and internal
control audit reviews with an emphasis in employee benefits and executive
compensation. She also has experience in employment tax matters and IRS
practice and procedures.

Elizabeth is a Senior Consultant in our Global Employer Services practice. She
is an attorney with experience in the design, implementation, compliance and

and FMLA. She also has experience working with qualified and non-qualified
retirement plans, including multi-employer plans.

Thomas Pevarnik, Director,
National Global Employment Services, Deloitte Tax LLP
Thomas Pevarnik is a Director in the National Global
Employment Services practice in the Washington National Tax Office. Tom has
over 20 years of experience in employee benefits, including over 15 years with
the Washington National Tax Office of Deloitte Tax. Prior to joining Deloitte,
Tom worked with the IRS National Office. While with the IRS, Tom worked with
the Employee Plans Technical and Actuarial division, which specializes in the
enforcement of rules related to qualified plans. While at the IRS, Tom was a
charter member of the committee that developed the Voluntary Compliance
Resolution Program. Tom serves as one of Deloitte Tax’s national experts on all
tax-favored retirement plans, including pension, 401(k) and 403(b) plans.

Materials All attendees will receive a binder with all lecture materials and case
studies, along with a glossary of important employee benefits terms and useful

Class Size: We can accept a maximum of 50 participants for this
course.
Continuing Education Credits: This program has been approved for 5.5 HRCI General
Credits. Pending Approval of 4 PA CE credits for insurance producers.
