Description:
Reporting to the Director, Benefits, this position coordinates the planning, implementation and administration and contributes to the strategy design of the University's Health and Welfare and Voluntary benefit programs including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending account, legal, long-term care, EAP and employee advocate programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation, documentation, communication and employee understanding and appreciation of all health and welfare and voluntary benefit programs, including union and retiree benefit plans. Coordinates with TPA to ensure proper administration of all health and welfare programs.

  • Provides superior customer service to internal and external customers, assisting employees with questions and providing counseling (via email, telephonically or in person)

  • Provides analytical and technical support in the delivery of benefit programs. Prepares and analyzes reports, extracting data from multiple systems. Coordinates daily benefit processing and updating of data into HRIS system and coordinates the transfer of data to external contacts - running, sending and troubleshooting electronic files and resolving data issues. Monitors and updates as necessary the outsourced administrator's system, documentation and procedures, trains call center staff and manages open items and issues. Provides technical support, tests system functionality and works with other end users of database to provide support and troubleshoot problems

  • Payment and auditing of premiums and fees

  • Conducts weekly benefits orientations

  • Creates and conducts benefits presentations using audiovisual tools including power point and video. Assists in the development of communication tools (including websites) to enhance the understanding of the University 's benefit package. Assists in the design of materials for benefits orientation and open enrollment

  • Responsible for the implementation and communication of benefit plan changes, including the annual Open Enrollment process, coordinating the efforts of multiple internal and external resources, including outsourced benefits administrators, benefits consultants, payroll, IRT and HRIS

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of benefit programs and federal and state regulations affecting benefit programs including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, Medicare, Social Security and DOL requirements

  • Knowledge of benefit contract language

  • Bachelor's degree and 7-10 years related experience or equivalent

  • PHR and/or CEBS preferred

  • Experience with an HR database system (Banner preferred)

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the proven ability to utilize MS Office.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Capable of effective planning and prioritizing. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines

  • Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of plan designs

  • Excellent Customer Service skills
